We live in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, half a block from the beach, with a great view of the Atlantic Ocean. We are midway between Daytona and Cape Canaveral. After sailing our beloved Sand Dollar around the world, we reluctantly sold her a few years ago. We were no longer crossing oceans, and USA dockage, boatyard and mandatory marina insurance fees made us decide it was time. We'd made multiple sails to the Florida Keys and Biscayne Bay and also sailed her up the Gulf of Mexico to the west coast of Florida, and then across the state through Lake Okeechobee and its locks, back to the east coast.
We now do our traveling on motorcycles, usually with two extended trips each year. In 2023, we rode an epic 17,000 miles cross-country, up through Canada, and into Alaska. Epic indeed! We’re currently planning a trip in May, to our family beach house in Delaware, and then in the summer, out to California (again). We've ridden to every state except Hawaii, but we did sail SandDollar there from San Francisco in 2008. We ride the secondary roads, seeking out small towns, rarely travelled byways, and historic natural sites. Our preferred lodging is our tent, and after many years in the restricted space of a small sailboat, we're pretty experienced at minimalist packing.
All the best,
Ken and Katie
